Dive Report
The weekly Diving Cairns Dive Report gives a rundown on what’s been happening out on the reef in the past week, weather and visibility conditions, unusual sightings, and the odd bit of gossip.

Overnight And Live Aboard Diving Trips

If you have the time to spend actually at the reef, then the best way to go is to actually sleep out on the reef on a live aboard vessel, instead of coming back to the mainland to sleep and eat.

Not only does it work out cheaper than a series of day trips, it also gives you a lot more dive time at various locations, and best of all you get the opportunity to do a night dive.

Organised trips range from 2 to 7 days, and private charters can be arranged for even longer periods.

The local live aboard operators offer different things and go to different places, so think about your own needs (and those of your travelling companions) and choose for the trip that suits you.

Outer Barrier Reef Liveaboard Trips

The sub seascape on the Outer Reef Sites differs from site to site. Many sites have large walls where huge schools of pelagics cruise by effortlessly. These reefs are also ideal for night diving, as experienced divers will tell you a site looks totally different at night. These sites are recommended not just for the experienced diver who is looking for diversity and maximum dives in short time but also for the newly experienced diver who is looking to get some excellent diving still in a very safe environment. Cod Hole & Ribbon Reefs Liveaboard Trips

Take in the Ribbon Reef system, which is a series of reefs stretching out like a long multi-coloured ribbon to the north to reach the famous Cod Hole, where a large family of Potato Cod live, as well as huge schools of fish and Maori Wrasse who all compete for a free fish dinner. More...

Coral Sea Liveaboard Trips

“Experienced Diver Heaven”. Hop onboard your vessel and get ready for a long steam crossing open ocean (usually at night). The Coral Sea can offer 1000 metre vertical walls with 40 metre visiblity. Here you can spot sharks including Grey Whalers, White Tips, Silver Tip Whalers, and circling scalloped hammerheads in July. Trips are usually 5 day in Length and incorporatye the Ribbon Reefs as Well. More...
