Live Aboards - Taka 4 Day Cod Hole

Taka takes you to the famous Cod Hole is located 200 kilometres north of Cairns. The trip combines the spectacular diving and marine life of the ribbon reefs with the opportunity to see the giant potato cod being hand fed at the Cod Hole.

Every Tuesday at 5:00pm ex Cairns.

Itinerary

• Tuesday: Pick up from Cairns accommodation at 5.00 pm and transfer to TAKA which departs from Cairns Harbour and travels during the night over the smooth waters inside the Great Barrier Reef up to the Ribbon Reefs.
• Wednesday: Start the first day diving at Ribbon Reef No.9 (Challenger Bay), a scenic place to get back into the swing of things and check out some beautiful coral formations. The boat then moves a bit further north to the Cod Hole for 2 dives. The first dive is to check out the general geography at the Cod Hole and take a look at the huge variety of marine life that lives in this area. The second dive at the Cod Hole is the cod feed, where huge schools of fish and Maori Wrasse compete with the large family of Potato Cod for a fish dinner. This would have to be one of the world's premier diving experiences. Then another dive south of this area at either Pixie Pinnacle or Harrier Reef.
• Thursday: Clam Garden is a favourite dive site, with giant clams scattered throughout the coral. Temple of Doom, is another famous site visited regularly. There are many other sites that can be dived in this area depending on conditions. During the course of this day you will see giant clams up to 2 metres across, huge coral gardens, and an abundance of marine life unmatched on this planet. 3 day dives and a night dive on this day.
• Friday: The last day includes 2 dives as you near the end of your trip. These dives are on the edge of the Great Barrier Reef at Agincourt and Opal Reefs, featuring unique coral formations and fish life. TAKA then cruises through the reef heading back into Cairns at approximately 3.30 pm.
